Kevin Bourque explains how a slackline can be used as isometric resistance. While pulling and pushing on a slackline, one resists with the feet, thus making these full-body isometric exercises. In standard isometrics one pulls or pushes against an immovable object or one’s own resistance. In either case, the resistance provides no range of motion. The slackline stretches allowing for range of motion. Research has shown isometrics to be good toning exercise, and good for maintaining, but not building muscle mass. Because of the failure of isometrics to build muscle, interest into this practice waned. Charles Atlas and Bruce Lee are the best-known isometrics proponents(wikipedia). A slackline is an amazing stretching assistant because one can move three dimentionally aound it. Some of these exercises can be done with resistance bands, but: 1. slackline is a lot more fun (walk/dance/yoga/gymnastics ON it too). 2.one can exert up to 4 tons of pressure before a slackline breaks (One can practice pulling or pushing as hard as is humanly possible without worrying about resistance bands breaking or weights falling.).
